Healing Ministry

Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.’           2 Corinthians 4:16

Our Healing Group meets once a month for prayer and also to discuss the various aspects of our healing services which we call the Healing Ministry.

Prayer is central to the Healing Ministry, and Intercessions – where we pray for others - are an important part of our church service. Intercession is about holding people who we are concerned about and who we love before God during their times of need. We ask that God’s healing love be poured onto and into that person or situation.

The Prayer for Healing Group meets in church on the second Monday of each month at 11.30am. Everyone is welcome to join us as we pray for people in the community and beyond.

We also have a Prayer Board at the back of the church where people can request prayers for those in need.

During the Parish Eucharist at 10am on Sundays there is also the opportunity for people to receive the laying-on-of-hands in the Lady Chapel during Communion. Laying-on-of-hands is another channel for God and has been practised from early in the church’s history. You may come for yourself or on behalf of another person. You may choose to mention the problem in need of healing, or remain silent. Confidentiality is respected.

We also occasionally hold a Service for Healing on Sundays at 6pm. This is a quiet, reflective service with a meditative dimension.

The church’s Healing Ministry is complementary to the work of your doctor. We believe that both are needed to restore health.

For more information on the Healing Ministry please contact the Revd Deborah Snowball (01923 772627).

  • Healing is about Wholeness

    • We all have bodies, minds, emotions, feelings and a spirit. We can be unwell in any of these areas, and often in several, as they are all interconnected and intertwined.

  • Healing is wider than Cure

    • We may not be physically made well but we may experience relief from our symptoms, peace of mind or the ability to accept our condition.

  • Healing and Wholeness are what God wants for us

    • God never fails to respond to our request for Healing but only He knows what is best for us and those we love. His response may be different from what we had expected.

  • Jesus met people at their point of need and healed them. It was central to his Ministry.

  • Jesus commanded his disciples to continue his Healing Ministry. The Church continues to do so.

  • Jesus forgave others. Forgiveness is Healing. God’s forgiveness is not dependent on our repentance but leads us to recognise our need to do so. The Gospel is concerned with the release from guilt and reconciliation.

  • The Church’s Healing Ministry is complementary to the work of the doctor. Both are needed to build and to restore health.
