Church Centre

The Church Centre is attached to St Mary’s Church and was a joint project with the Methodist Church who now share the buildings. It was opened on Sunday 30th May 1982 by the Bishop of St Albans and the Chairman of the London NW Methodist District.

Technical specification

Dimensions of hall: The main hall is approximately 14.7 x 9.0 metres in size with one main entrance door from the foyer. There are also doors which lead out to the cloistered area.

Toilets: Male, female and disabled toilet facilities

Level access (please note it is not possible to drive right up to the hall)

Equipment

The kitchen within the church centre was extensively refurbished in 2007. It is equipped with plenty of cups and saucers, some children’s cups, three large teapots and a fixed water boiler for hot drinks.

We have two sinks and a dishwasher which washes and dries dishes in approximately 10-15 minutes. We also have a limited supply of plates and cutlery.

There is a serving hatch which opens on to the hall.

Our broom cupboard contains large brooms and a dustpan and brush. You might find it useful to bring dishcloths, tea towels and black bin bags.

Within the hall we have enough chairs and tables to seat around 80 people.

There is a pull-down projector screen.

How to book

The Church Centre is available for hire. If you would like to book the church centre for regular gatherings or for one-off events such as a party, please contact Dorothy Doughty on 01923 233974.

As a guideline, the hall is available most Saturdays and some weekday evenings after 7.30pm.

Please also note that Room 1 which is upstairs within the Church Centre can also be booked. The room can hold 20 people for informal meetings.

Dorothy will send you an application form and you have two weeks in which to fill it in and return it. Attached to the application form you will find a list of user rules. Please note that food and alcohol can be served in the hall at a private function but cannot be sold without a licence from the local authority. Someone will lock and unlock the hall after you have used it. Of course, we would expect you to leave the hall in the same tidy state in which you find it.
