St Mary’s Church was once known as “Our Lady of the Island” as it was surrounded by streams and drainage ditches in medieval times. It was a place set aside for drawing closer to God, an island of prayer, of sanctuary and of Christian presence.
These days only a few of those original watercourses remain but, in many ways, St Mary’s retains that sense of being an island of spirituality in amongst the hustle and bustle of Rickmansworth and the constant thrum of the busy roads that flow into the M25.
This church is prayed in every day and much of it takes place here within our Lady Chapel.
