The Stations of the Cross are a series of 14 pictures that depict the final moments of Jesus’ life as he carried his cross to Calvary to be crucified.
These pictures help us to remember the sacrifice Jesus made and his unwavering love and forgiveness, despite the inhumanity and brutality shown to him.
In this the 6th station Veronica had the courage to step through the angry baying crowd in a small yet profound act of mercy.
Veronica tenderly wiped the face of Jesus, with her handkerchief taking away the blood and stinging sweat from his eyes.
It was a fleeting moment of gentleness and kindness that shone out brightly against the violence and the hate; a glimpse of the light of hope and of goodness that can be within us all.
Veronica’s act of mercy touched the heart of Jesus, and her small part in the story will never be forgotten.
As you sit near this station for a little while perhaps you can think of those people that have shown you kindness and thank God for them.
