Thy Kingdom Come - an annual global prayer initiative

Ascension Day to Pentecost

21-31 May 2020

Happy Ascensiontide!

We pray together: Thy Kingdom Come

What is it all about?

Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement which invites Christians around the world to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus Christ. What started out as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in 2016 to the Church of England has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer.

The hope is that:

  • people will commit to pray with God’s world-wide family
  • churches will hold prayer events
  • people will be empowered through prayer by the Holy Spirit

When does it all take place?

In 2020, Thy Kingdom Come will take place from Ascension Day (Thursday 21 May) to Pentecost (Sunday 31 May).

What are we going to be doing at St Mary’s?

We’ve got a range of events and activities planned with something for everyone – whatever your age, wherever you are on your journey of faith, however confident you feel.

You are all encouraged to look at the list of activities and join in with what you can.

We’re praying for the Holy Spirit to come.

Every day 21-31 May – At home and from church

One of the motivations underpinning this whole event is to pray that the Holy Spirit will inspire people to come to faith. This initiative has proved really popular at St Mary’s over the years. Through a #Pledge2Pray, we are all encouraged to pray each day at 5.00pm for five people we would like to come to know Jesus Christ in their lives – whether as a new relationship, or one that is being re-kindled.

If you feel led to pray for five people, that’s great; if you want to pray for only one or two, then that is great too! Download the poster which has small flames on which to write each person’s name as you pray for the Holy Spirit to guide them to faith.

We hope that people will also #Pledge2Pray using the Light up Rickmansworth link. Have a look at the video below.

21 May – 31 May
A specially produced booklet with a Scripture passage for each of the eleven days offers the opportunity for personal reflection on what God is doing in our lives. You can download it here to print at home. Please call the Church Office if you would like a copy sent to you by post.

Missional Generation is a Christian charity based in the North of England that creates faith-based digital content for churches and schools.

Both the map and link to the app are available for smart phones and tablets.

The app features daily games and videos which will all be delivered through innovative augmented reality! Enjoy the adventure!

10am: Pentecost Songs of Praise followed by a glass of fizz!

We’ll be asking individuals to choose a hymn that they link with Pentecost and inviting them to share with us why they have chosen it. We’ll enjoy singing the songs and hymns too.
