If you were baptised (christened) when you were young, your parents made a choice for you. You became a Christian, a member of the Church, and began your Christian journey.

You may feel that you would like to affirm that choice for yourself. Perhaps you feel that you would like to understand more about the Christian faith and grow in your relationship with God.

  • Would you like to be able to share fully in our worship by receiving communion?
  • Have you reached a stage in life when you are seeking new purpose and direction?

If any of this means something to you then you should consider Confirmation.

What is Confirmation?

In the Confirmation Service, the Bishop places his hands on your head and prays that God will confirm (strengthen) you with his Holy Spirit. He asks God to help you live your life as a Christian, now that you have decided to continue the Journey of faith.

Once confirmed, you may receive communion (the heart of Christian worship) so, in the preparation course, we seek to understand more about the communion service

What do I have to do?

In the months prior to the service, those who are interested in being confirmed meet, usually weekly. The groups are relaxed and informal and there’s no exam at the end!

You can join a group, even if you are unsure about whether or not you want to be confirmed. You can make up your mind as you go along.

The groups are not just about learning more about our faith but also about getting to know God and yourself. Being a Christian is first of all not about what you know or who you are but about who you know.

Children’s Communion

Young people aged 7 years and over may receive Communion before Confirmation provided they wish to do so, have the consent of their parents or guardians and have received instruction in the meaning of the service.
