We believe that prayer is a force for good that God has placed in our hands. Prayer is therefore an important Christian responsibility.

Praying is about:

  • being with God,
  • talking to God and
  • listening to God

You can pray:

  • any time,
  • any place,
  • anywhere

It’s good to set aside time to be with God. Find a quiet place, sit or kneel and ask God to help you still your thoughts and mind. Remember, God is always with you. He loves you. He wants to help you.

Prayer

There is no greater blessing than a friend who’s there when good times aren’t.

Prayer stations

Thousands of people have prayed in St Mary’s from the 13th century to the present day. The very stones of our beautiful church are steeped in prayer and the love of God.

We are developing a series of prayer stations around the church building which you may find helpful in focusing your thoughts and prayers. At each station there is a QR code you may use to read a spiritual reflection. A map will be available shortly. You can also read the reflections below.

The prayer stations are all intended to be doorways to prayer. They offer several different ways in which you can sit with God, to ponder and to seek his loving presence. The church is usually open during the day and you are most welcome to come in, to pray, to think or just to be.

There is a prayer board by the Lady Chapel where you can light a candle and request prayers for those in need.

May God bless you!
